Montserrat College of Art has officially announced the launch of The Bower, a transformative 36,000-square-foot creative arts complex at 248 Cabot Street. Designed as a collaborative hub for artists, students, educators, and entrepreneurs, The Bower will anchor the Beverly Arts District and further solidify the city’s growing reputation as a regional arts and innovation center.

A New Home for Creativity and Collaboration

Spanning three floors, The Bower is envisioned as a dynamic ecosystem where education, entrepreneurship, and the arts converge. The facility features affordable artist studios, galleries, performance venues, offices, and community spaces designed to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and creativity.

“Fostering a vibrant, dynamic arts community in the heart of Beverly’s downtown is aligned with Montserrat College of Art’s mission,” said Brian Pellinen, President of Montserrat College of Art. “The Bower will serve as both an incubator and creative ecosystem where education, entrepreneurship, and the arts will flourish side by side.”

Spaces Designed for Artists, Nonprofits, and Creative Ventures

The top floor of The Bower includes more than thirty affordable artist studios, a gallery, and lounges where artists can connect organically. The first floor houses a second gallery, meeting rooms, and offices for local nonprofits such as Beverly Main Streets and The Cabot, along with flexible spaces for creative businesses and student-run enterpriseslaunched through Montserrat’s Center for Career Design and Creative Enterprise.

On the lower level, a multi-use performance space will host concerts, theater, dance, and community events year-round—making The Bower a cornerstone for Beverly’s cultural life.

Empowering the Next Generation of Creative Entrepreneurs

According to Michael Kerr, Montserrat’s Founding Director of Creative Enterprises, the college will partner with students to develop, launch, and operate businesses out of The Bower, ranging from advertising agencies and animation studios to design and production firms.

“Like Montserrat, The Bower resides at the intersection of education, enterprise, and artistic expression,” said Kerr. “This building will be a place where students can see, hear, and experience the business of creativity. We believe this incredible facility will help transform Beverly into the regional leader in the arts economy.”

A Cultural Anchor for Beverly’s Arts District

The opening of The Bower represents a significant milestone in the revitalization of downtown Beverly, a community increasingly recognized for its thriving arts scene. By housing artists, nonprofits, and startups under one roof, The Bower will strengthen Beverly’s role as a creative and economic hubfor the North Shore.

For Montserrat College of Art, this initiative reinforces its mission to integrate art and enterprise, preparing students for success in the evolving creative economy while enriching the broader community.

A Vision for the Future

As construction and programming continue, The Bower is poised to become a beacon for collaboration, innovation, and cultural engagement. Combining the energy of emerging artists with the expertise of creative professionals, the facility will ensure that Beverly—and Montserrat College of Art—remain at the forefront of New England’s arts renaissance.
